Peter Scott 1909 - 1989

Peter Scott used his artistic talents to fund his projects. He was at his best when painting flocks of geese and ducks in the air against a sunset background and his many paintings in this genre are most clearly associated with his art. He was nominated Master Wildlife Artist by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wisconsin in 1980. He received a knighthood in 1973.

He was the son of Captain Robert Falcon Scott who died on an expedition to the South Pole in 1911. He founded the Severn Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge in 1946 and played a key role in setting up the World Wildlife Fund.

He illustrated his own books, notably Morning Flight and Wild Chorus. In all, he published 30 books which he wrote and illustrated, and contributed illustrations to a further 89.
