Scottish painter of landscapes in oils and watercolours, also genre, animals and birds. Studied art in Edinburgh. He exhibited at RA and RSA. Rankin illustrated many books. among these were Wildlife in the West Highlands and Horare G Groser's The Book of Birds (London 1909).
