Winifred Marie Louise Austen

Born Ramsgate Kent.  Lived in Suffolk from 1926 until her death in 1964.  She was taught art privately and became a painter, etcher and drypoint engraver.   She spent her spare time illustrating inmates at the London Zoo. The best known books she illustrated are Birds Ashore and Aforeshore published in 1935.  .  Illustrated books, magazines and postcards.  SWA (1905); ARE (1907); RE(1922); RI(1925). Work is charming without being sentimental
